The Fairy Song Catcher

I witnessed a small miracle
In my apple tree
 A song catcher conversing
 With lively finches, three

A fairy musicologist
 Renown throughout the realm
 Plucks wondrous fantasias
In pine tree, oak, and elm

On this sun-kissed, springtime day
 When life has taken wing
 The forest bard is listening
 To how the finches sing

“Sing to me my feathered friends
 Celebrate the skies!
 I praise your lovely melodies
 And how you harmonize”

 “I’ll compose accompaniment
 Upon my willing lyre
 And find the right arpeggio
 To which we may aspire”

“To write a birdsong madrigal
 Your voices share a place
 With cardinal, wren, and nightingale
The doves will sing the bass”

The aves gathered right on cue
 Fairies did abound
My garden, now a concert hall
 To welcome magic sound

The session lasted through the eve
 Such gracious notes I heard
The apple blossoms lit the stage
 Of fairy harp and bird
