Skylar van Joolen at the Piano

Song for a Young Musician

I have a nephew named Skylar Blue
Who plays the sax and piano too

He sits for hours at the keys
Plays classical and his own ditties

His hair is blonde, a real toehead
It's weird, his sister’s hair is red

His uncle’s cool as he can be
A jolly fellow for all to see

Although he’s just a little strange
A library troll that’s slow to change

But this little story’s about the kid
Who plays like no van Joolen ever did

From Liszt, Chopin and Rachi too
Or improv that might be sad and blue

He can blow a jazzy tune
Writes songs that make the women swoon

Berklee’s lucky to have him there
They get to teach that big Pooh Bear

He’s rock & roll, a soaring Raven!
He’s got the stuff his peeps are cravin’

His songs will soon be in your ears
It should take no more than 2 years

His movie scores will make you cry
You’ll hear many before you die

Don’t be surprised if he composes
A symphony as sweet as roses

Haunting melodies will raise your hair
Unique harmonies will fill the air

And if an opera comes his way
“I knew he would,” you’ll simply say

Then the world will be truly blessed
With music that’s the very best.

So keep your eyes and ears attuned
For when the Sky-Man’s career’s ballooned

When he’s holding Oscar number one
We’ll drink Kristal and have some fun

You’ll remember that one day
His uncle Jack called it this way!
