Fairy Pencils and Paper

Sometimes I pick up a pencil
And think I can draw anything
Sometimes I stand on a stage
And think that it's opera I sing

Sometimes I stare at a person
And think that I am reading his mind
At times I am an explorer
With nothing but treasure to find

Sometimes I think no one sees me
Because I'm the Invisible Man
Sometimes I'm flirting with Wendy
When I know that I'm Peter Pan

Sometimes I captain a ship
With sails, or dilithium crystals
Sometimes I'm dueling a scoundrel
With fists, or pearl-handled pistols

Sometimes I dance in the rain
The steps that I learned from Gene Kelly
Sometimes I cook for the fairies
Pancakes with honey and jelly

Sometimes I look at the paint chips
And see a theatrical play
Sometimes I sit by the river
And talk to the heron all day

Sometimes I take a blank canvas
And paint a most glorious scene
Sometimes my vision gets blurry
And my sketches are not very keen

I don't always find the right magic
My brushes won't find their home
Then I sharpen my pencil
To write a fairyland poem.

Today may not be one of those days
Bad fairies often have there own ways
In my eager hand, my pencil still stays
In case I'm inspired by how my mind plays
A brand new idea, or artistic phrase
Endurance, with patience, usually pays!
